2018 appropriation bill to be presented in Parliament

State Minister of Finance Eran Wickramaratne will present the Appropriation Bill outlining allocations to be made for each Ministry for 2018,  to parliament today (09) for its first reading.

According to the Appropriation Bill presented by the Minister of Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera to the Cabinet of Ministers last month, the expected expenditure for the year 2018 is Rs. 3,982 billion, which is 10.5 percent more than 2017 estimate.

While recurrent expenditure is estimated to be at Rs. 1309 billion, the government has allocated Rs. 668 billion for capital expenditure.

Total government revenue is estimated at Rs. 2,175 billion. The government plans to borrow Rs. 1,813 billion.

Minister Samaraweera is expected to deliver the budget speech in parliament on the 9th of November for the Second Reading Debate.

The Ministry of Finance and Mass Media announced that public views and proposals for the 2018 budget will be accepted up until 18th of October.
