Drowsy driving, cause for Theldeniya road tragedy

Police say details/identities of the victims of Theldeniya road tragedy have been verified.

Three persons including 2 women died in the accident.

It occurred when a car which was heading towards Kandy from Mahiyanganaya, veered off the road and hit a motorcyclist and two women in a bus halt, at Gonawela in Theldeniya.

The incident occurred this morning (10).

The motorcyclist was Rengasami Selvakumar, 41-year-old, resident of Digana in Rajawella.

Ramya Kumari Premaratne who was 31-years-old, was a resident of Gonawela in Rajawella.

Meanwhile, the 3rd victim, 41-year-old, Chandra Kumarihami was a resident of Kotagoda.

The bodies are kept at Theldeniya Hospital.

Two persons, including the driver of the car injured in the accident.

Police said that the driver was transferred to Kandy Hospital for further treatment.

Police said drowsy driving was the cause of the mishap.
