The Ministry of Public Enterprise Development has removed Litro Gas Chairman Shalila Moonesinghe from his post.

Moonesinghe is in remand custody over his alleged links to the hacking of Taiwan's Far Eastern Bank and stealing money.

He was remanded until 25th of October today (11).

In a media communique, the Ministry said that the Secretary of the Ministry has already instructed Sri Lanka Insurance Chairman to do so.

An acting Chairman will be appointed soon, the Ministry added.

Sri Lanka Insurance is the main shareholder of Litro Gas Limited.

The Criminal Investigation Department arrested Shalila Moonesinghe on Monday.

Moonesinghe is also the Leader of the New Democratic Front, under which President Maithripala Sirisena contested and won the 2015 Presidential Election.

Police acted after state-owned Bank of Ceylon reported a suspicious transfer into one of its accounts of $ 1.2 million from Taiwan Far Eastern Bank, following the withdrawal of some of the money by one of the suspects.

Sri Lankan authorities have so far nabbed two Sri Lankans accused of helping hackers steal millions from Far Eastern International Bank of Taiwan.

Focus Taiwan, the English-language news website of Taiwan’s Central News Agency, said on Saturday Far Eastern Bank had reported to Taiwan’s financial watchdog that its computer system had been infected with malware.
