President Maithripala Sirisena says it is doubtful whether the public servants who undertake foreign visits to obtain knowledge on new technology and know-how are using that new knowledge for the betterment of the country.

He also said that if the responsibilities for the earth and the environment are not properly fulfilled the country will face a tragic situation in the future.

He said it is a prime responsibility of everyone to be committed to the activities of environmental conservation.

The President said this speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the programme to conserve the hydro catchment areas and ‘Vanaropa’ National Tree Planting Programme in Kandy today (11).
