The Meteorological Department says that showers exceeding 100 mm can be expected in many areas tonight, but there will be a decrease in showers after tomorrow.

The highest rainfall during the last 24 hours of 123.8 mm was recorded from Nivitigala in Ratnapura.

The Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippilli said that 2 sluice gates of the Kukuleganga Reservoir have been opened due to the rising water levels.

He also said minor floods have been reported in several low lying areas in Ratnapura and Millakanda due to rising water levels of Kalu Ganga.

Meanwhile, a minor flood situation is also reported from Panadugama due to rising water level in the Nilwala River.

People in those areas to be vigilant.

The National Building Research Organization said that considering heavy rains being experienced, landslide risks are prevailing in the Galle, Matara, Kegalle, Ratnapura and Nuwara Eliya districts.

So far today (14) heavy showers and thundershowers were reported at several places in Galle, Kalutara, Nuwara-Eliya, and Ratnapura.
