It was revealed before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry, probing the controversial bond issuance today (17) that Anika Wijesuriya who cited information of former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, when she was testified, has received death threats from a close associate of the former Minister Karunanayake.

The Attorney General’s Department informed the Commission, therefore Anika Wijesuriya has already fled the country in fear of her life.

Testifying before Presidential Commission, Anika Wijesuriya said that the owner of Perpetual Treasuries Company, Arjun Aloysius, obtained an apartment from her on rent at a cost of 11.6 million rupees.

She said the luxury apartment was later given to former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake.

Consequently, Former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake was compelled to resign from his portfolio over the allegation.

Meanwhile, the Private Secretary of the owner of Perpetual Treasuries Company, Steve Samuel appeared today before the Bond Commission for the first time.

The Commission issued summons to him yesterday (16) to appear before the Commission.

He was unable to attend the Commission on the previous occasion as he was hospitalized due to a chest pain.
