The Cost of Living Committee has been instructed by President Maithripala Sirisena to import several essential commodities with immediate effect, as the prices of many goods have increased drastically.

A senior minister told our news team that the President gave this instruction during yesterday’s Cabinet meeting.

Accordingly, rice, fish, dried fish, sprats and big onions will be imported and distributed through CWE and Lak Sathosa outlets.

During the Cabinet meeting yesterday (17) several Ministers have highlighted the fact that the cost of living has drastically increased.
