The CID had arrested Shalila Moonesinghe following the detection of $ 1.1 million being remitted from the Taiwan Far Eastern International Bank to one of his private accounts at a state bank in Sri Lanka.

The introduction of a computer virus had made it possible to hack into the Taiwan ban leading to approximately $c60 million being withdrawn illegally and credited to other accounts.
