Medical tests prove she is a virgin….

Dambulla JMO takes the case to NCPA..

Pre-judgment is a common mistake that we all make in our day to day life. However, sometimes those judgments make life miserable for others.

One such incident was reported from Kekirawa, Anuradhapura recently.

This is a story about a grade 10 schoolgirl. Her parents are so poor.

But she was determined to do well in studies.

She most often goes to school in the morning without eating anything as her parents do not afford to ‘keep the home fires burning’ every day.

One day, when she was in her class, she started vomiting and then got fainted.

Three of her classmates have informed the incident to the principal and then a meeting was convened among the teachers and the principal.

The innocent girl was called in and teachers started to ask various questions from her. She had burst into tears upon hearing the accusations made by her teachers.

They have accused her of being pregnant.

Then the principal had sent a message to the innocent girl’s parents to come to school.

Later, the principal had informed the parents that the girl is pregnant and had expelled that 15-year-old girl from the school.

The parents who became confused and had admitted the girl to Dambulla Hospital for a medical test.

The parents have informed the doctors at the hospital, the story told by the principal.

However, tests had proved that the girl is a virgin and principal's assessment or pre-judgment was wrong.

The Judicial Medical Officer of the Dambulla hospital has also made a complaint to the National Child Protection Authority about this incident.

Now doctors are trying to heal the mental stress underwent by this poor girl.

However, the parents are hopeful that the school will readmit their child to the school.

Meanwhile, when our correspondent visited the school, Odatugama Revatha Model School to meet the principal to get her side of the story, the teachers have told him, that the principal has gone out for a special meeting.

Then another teacher, who introduced herself as a vice principal had said that an incident of this nature did not take place at her school.

Then our correspondent had contacted the principal, S. K. Godakande over the phone. She had said that the girl’s discipline was bad and that's why she took that decision to expel her.

She said the parents got the girl discharged from the school on their own.

Teachers have a huge responsibility in shaping the future of schoolchildren.

They cannot make judgments based on hearsay. If that happens, what would happen to our future generations?
