Four persons have died in two separate accidents last afternoon (21).

In Ja-Ela, two road workers were killed when they were knocked down by a speeding car on the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway.

Police said the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel and then the car had veered off the road and hit the workers who were cutting grass.

The two workers had passed away after admitting to the National Hospital, Colombo.

The driver was taken into police custody.

Meanwhile, in Kitulwela on the Meerigama-Divulapitiya Road, two persons on a motor-cycle were knocked down by a speeding lorry.

Two youths, aged 22 and 17 years died in the incident.

The lorry driver has been arrested.
