Gampola girl’s death caused by dehydration, doctors find

The post-mortem examination conducted on the 7-year-old girl who passed away in the Gampola Base Hospital due to food poisoning revealed that the cause of death was dehydration.

The Director of the Gampola Base Hospital, Dr. Mahendra Seneviratne noted that the child was pronounced dead upon admission to hospital.

The child had suffered severe diarrhea and vomiting due to a germ infection.

Medical reports confirmed that as a result, she underwent severe dehydration.

The deceased is a 7-year-old girl named F.M. T Darshika who was a resident of  Ja-Ela – Udammita.

The child along with her family and 54 others had participated at a wedding in Kahatagasdigiliya.

During their travel, the group had stopped for tea in Dambulla and attended the wedding ceremony.

Later the child, her mother, father and siblings had visited a relative's residence in Gampola.

Following this, the family of five had suffered from vomiting and stomach ache and was admitted to the Gampola Base Hospital.

The child died upon admission to the hospital and a spokesperson for the hospital noted that the condition of the mother, father, and siblings is not critical.
