The Government has stepped up activities with related to the establishment of Office of Missing Persons.

Accordingly, the Constitutional Council has called for applications from prospective candidates to be appointed to the new establishment.

Candidates with knowledge and experience in Human Rights Law, International Humanitarian Law, and Humanitarian Response and investigations are encouraged to apply.

The OMP is one of the main pillars of Sri Lanka’s transitional justice agenda.

President Maithripala Sirisena signed the Office on Missing Persons Act in July.

Sri Lanka introduced a bill to establish the OMP on the 22nd of May and the Bill was gazetted on the 27th of May 2016.

On June 21, the Office on Missing Persons Bill, presented by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, was passed unanimously in Parliament.
