Speaker to take action against Wimal

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has informed that he will draw his attention to the threatening statement made by MP Wimal Weerawansa with regard to Parliament.

He has said that the future course of action will be taken against the MP accordingly.

MP Weerawansa has allegedly stated that it is necessary to carry out a bomb attack on the Parliament.

The Speaker’s Office announced that both Government and Opposition MPs have drawn the matter to the speaker’s attention.

The MPs have requested the Speaker to consider Weerawansa’s statement as a threat to the lives of Parliamentarians as well as to the Parliamentary democracy.

Later, the speaker has informed that he will draw his attention to the matter and take suitable action soon after the Parliament is convened again.
