NCPA commences investigation on Madatugama schoolgirl

The National Child Protection Authority has commenced an investigation into the incident which took place at Madatugama, Kekirawa where a schoolgirl had been expelled by the school authorities alleging that she is pregnant.

The NCPA said a special police investigation will be conducted into this incident and already a team of investigators have been sent to the area.

The Human Rights COmmission has also probed this incident.

In this case, a Grade 10 schoolgirl, had expelled from the school after she had vomited in the classroom.

It was found she had gone to school without eating anything due to poverty.

After she vomited in the classroom, three of her classmates have informed the incident to the principal and then a meeting was convened among the teachers and the principal.

The innocent girl had been called in and teachers had started to ask various questions from her. She had burst into tears upon hearing the accusations made by her teachers.

They have accused her of being getting pregnant.

Then the principal had sent a message to the innocent girl’s parents to come to school.

Later, the principal had informed the parents that the girl is pregnant and had expelled that 15-year-old girl from the school.

The parents who became confused and had admitted the girl to Dambulla Hospital for a medical test.

The parents have informed the doctors at the hospital, the story told by the principal.

However, tests had proved that the girl is a virgin and principal's assessment was wrong.

The Judicial Medical Officer of the Dambulla hospital had made a complaint to the National Child Protection Authority about this incident.
