The Sri Lanka Medical Council decided today (25) not to change the report which recommended the minimum standards a medical college should be equipped with.

SLMC President Professor Colvin Gunarathna announced this decision after a special meeting held this afternoon.

The report recommending minimum standards a medical college should be equipped with was prepared by the SLMC in last June.
Later the report was handed over to the Health Ministry to be gazetted.

However, the University Grants Commission and the Attorney General’s Department made a proposal to the SLMC to amend certain clauses.

Accordingly, the minimum qualification to enroll in a medical college which is two Credit Passes and One Ordinary pass in the Biology Science Stream at the GCE Advanced Level examination will remain as it is.

At the same time, the criteria to set up a medical college has been included in the final report and, that report will be handed over to the Health Ministry to be gazetted.
