The Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife Gamini Jayawickrama Perera says the regulations imposed on limiting the number of safari vehicles entering the Yala National Park will not be relaxed.

The Minister said that the decision was taken for the safety and well-being of animals and the preservation of the park.

The Ministry issued a directive on Monday (23) to restrict entry of vehicles to the park.

Accordingly, 100 vehicles will be allowed from the Palatupana entrance while 50 vehicles will be allowed from the Katagamuwa entrance.

However, the safari jeep owners are staging a protest against this move by the Ministry.
