11-year-old girl dies of dengue (Photos)

An 11-year-old girl, a resident of Maddegama, Wellawa has died of dengue.
 
The victim Kavini Gayesha Lankathilleke was a grade 6 student of Kurunegala Sir John Kotelawala Balika Vidyalaya.
 
Her elder sister is studying at grade 10 of the same school.
 
Kavini was admitted to Kurunegala Teaching Hospital on 21st with fever.
 
Later she was transferred to the ICU as she had developed for dengue hemorrhagic fever and on Wednesday she had passed away.
 
It was found Kavini had contracted dengue in 2012 as well.
 
Hospital authorities said 40 other students and the music teacher of Kurunegala Sir John Kotelawala Balika Vidyalaya are also being treated for dengue at Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
 
The condition of the music teacher is serious, we were told.
 
The hospital sources also said that around 150 patients are being treated at the hospital right now for dengue.
 
It is found that a number of new constructions are taking place at this school as well as other schools in the area creating mosquito breeding grounds.
