3 die in lightning, heavy showers expected

The Meteorological Department says that heavy showers exceeding 150 mm can be expected in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces as well as in Anuradhapura, Puttalam, Galle and Matara districts within the next 24 hours.
 
Issuing a communiqué, the department noted that remaining areas can experience showers exceeding 100 mm.
 
Meanwhile, 17 families in Weganthale, Mawanella have been evacuated due to risks of landslides.
 
The Disaster Management Center noted that the roads that were obstructed due to a collapsing of embankments in Ambalakanda, Aranayake, Mawanella are being restored.
 
Meanwhile, three individuals died after being struck by lightning in Medamulana, Weeraketiya this afternoon.
 
Police stated that the victims had been drying paddy in a helipad at the time of the incident.
 
It is reported that the deceased were aged between 65 and 30.
 
Police further stated that the victims were residents of Galpoththayaya in Weeraketiya.
