The Meteorological Department predicts that due to the low-level atmospheric disturbance over Sri Lanka, the prevailing showery condition will enhance further today (31).

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times over most parts of the island and the possibility of heavy showers is highly likely in the hilly areas, the weather forecast said.

Heavy falls above 150 mm within 24 hours could be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, western, North-western, Uva, Northern and North-Central provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Ampara, and Batticaloa districts.

The Duty Meteorologist Udeni Weerasinghe requested the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning.
