SLFP General Secretary Minister Duminda Dissanayake says that they would contest as a broad alliance at the forthcoming local government election.

Following a discussion at the Presidential Secretariat today (03), he said that they would not contest together with the UNP.

SLFP Ministers and MP’s as well as electoral organizers participated in the discussion, held under the patronage of the President Maithripala Sirisena.

Although invitations were sent to Joint Opposition MP’s as well they were absent.

However, the JO had sent a letter signed by 42 members citing 7 conditions for them to consider joining to work with the SLFP.

Meanwhile, Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka said that the UNP would contest the forthcoming Local Government elections as the United National Front.

This was in response to questions raised by journalists at a media briefing held at Sirikotha regarding the statement made by Minister Rajitha Senarathna that the two main parties will contest together.

Meanwhile, Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka stated that double standards of the Joint Opposition were obvious during the debate on the Constitutional Assembly Steering Committee Interim Report.
