The Ministry of Petroleum Resources Development says that petrol availability will only suffice for the next four days.

Ministry Secretary Upali Maarasinghe told our news team that action will be taken to distribute sufficient supplies of fuel island-wide.

He requested however that consumers refrain from hoarding petrol.

Long queues were observed yesterday (05) at a number of petrol stations throughout the island.

Our reporters confirmed that some fuel stations had displayed notices stating there was no petrol.

yesterday the Petroleum Corporation also instructed petrol stations to limit the issuing of petrol and notices were displayed informing consumers of such measures being taken.

Meanwhile, while a stock of petrol imported by the Indian Oil Company had been rejected because it was sub-standard, Secretary to the Ministry of Petroleum Resources Development Upali Marasinghe said that the stock would not be accepted at any cost.

Ceylon Petroleum General Employees’ Union Secretary D. J. Rajakarunaa said that the vessel carrying the rejected fuel stock is still anchored at Trincomalee harbour.
