Gamini Senarath to surrender to court on Thursday

The lawyers representing the Chief of Staff of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa,  Gamini Senarath have informed the Supreme Court that their client is prepared to surrender to Colombo Fort Magistrate Court on Thursday (09).
 
This was disclosed when a Fundamental Rights petition filed by Senarath seeking to bar him from being arrested by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division, was taken up for hearing at the Supreme Court today (06).
 
The lawyers also informed the Supreme Court that their client will fully support the investigations carried out by the FCID against him.
 
The FR petition filed by Gamini Senarath will accordingly be taken up for hearing on 17th of this month.
 
On 31st of last month, Colombo Fort Magistrate, Lanka Jayaratne issued an order preventing Gamini Senarath and 2 others - Piyadasa Kudabalage and Neil Bandara - from going abroad.
 
The order was issued based on a report submitted by the FCID.
 
They are named as suspects in a case of alleged misappropriation of Rs. 4.4 billion which was set aside for Sino Lanka Hotel Project, for Grand Hyatt Hotel Project in Hambantota without proper approval.
 
During the previous regime Rs. 18.5 billion was set aside for Sino Lanka Hotel Project from Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation and EPF with the Cabinet Approval.
 
The FCID said that they will continue the investigations after recording statements from the suspects.
