Minister of Petroleum Resources Development Arjuna Ranatunga says steps have been taken to ease the shortage of petrol reported from many parts of the country by this evening (06).

He said until Thursday 2,500 liters of petrol will be released to the market.

Minister Ranatunga said there's no shortage of diesel in the country and warned tough action will be taken against fuel station that do not distribute diesel.

He said that few decisions were taken during a discussion with President this afternoon on a substandard petrol shipment imported by Lanka IOC.

He said this was the first time that such an issue cropped up.

The Minister said a vessel carrying 40,000 metric tonnes of petrol (32,500 MT of 92 Octane, 7,500 MT of 95 Octane) will arrive in Sri Lanka on Thursday.

However, despite all those promises, still, there are long vehicle queues being reported nearby petrol stations in many areas.

This is Navinna, Maharagama.
