Hambantota protest: 31 persons including Prasanna Ranaweera granted bail

Joint Opposition MP Prasanna Ranaweera and 30 others, remanded in connection with the last month’s (October 16) protest in front of Indian Consulate General’s Office in Hambantota, were released on bail today (13).

Hambantota Magistrate Manjula Karunarathna ordered to release them on two surety bails of 500,000 rupees each.

Western Provincial Councilor Upali Kodikara and Retired Major Ajith Prasanna were also released.

The protest against the alleged leasing of Mattala Airport to India was staged by the Joint Opposition in front of Indian Consulate General’s Office at Hambantota on 16th of October.

9 protestors including MP Namal Rajapaksa were released on a previous occasion.
