Due to a protest, the Kandy-Colombo road has been blocked from Ganetenna, Mawanella.

This demonstration is held urging the authorities to renovate the Ganetenne-Mahanthegama road.

The protestors have burnt tyres on the road disrupting traffic on the Colombo-Kandy main road.

The protestors have moved out of the main road only after the Chief Engineer of Rambukkana had given a written promise to the protestors that the road will be renovated soon.

Around 100 police personnel have also been deployed at the location.

Meanwhile, another protest was held in Pachchilaipalli in Kilinochchi urging the authorities to repair the dilapidated roads in Kilinochchi.

Our correspondent said that the area residents staged a similar protest in 6 months ago as well.

The protestors said that although the Divisional Secretary agreed to renovate the roads, the promises are not fulfilled.
