The second reading of Budget 2018 was passed with two-thirds majority in parliament this afternoon.

151 voted for the budget while 58 voted against.

Accordingly, the budget was passed with 93 majority votes.

JVP and the Joint Opposition voted against the budget while TNA voted for.

Former president Mahinda Rajapakse was absent during the vote taking.

Meanwhile, making amendments to the budget, Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said that prevailing ceiling of vehicle leasing facility for hybrid vehicles will be increased upto 70% with effect from midnight today.

He also said that the duty concession for one million rupees granted by the budget for electric cars will be extended for such imported vehicles used abroad less than one year.
