Election Commission meets tomorrow to take a decision

The Court of Appeal has postponed consideration of the Writ against the Gazette that has already been issued with regard to the delimitation of Local Government Institutions and their number of members.

Chairman of the Appeal Court, Justice L.T.B. Dehideniya, Justice Kumuduni Wickramasinghe and Justice Shiral Gunarathna have postponed the hearing to November 22.

At the same time, the panel of judges allowed the Secretary of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and attorney-at-law, Saagarika Abeywickrama to intermediate in this Petition.

6 voters from Kandy, Elpitiya, Colombo, Matara and Hali Ela have filed this Writ seeking annulment of the Gazette.

Minister of Provincial Council and Local Government Minister Faizer Mustapha and his ministry secretary have been named as respondents.

Meanwhile, Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya stated that the commission will convene tomorrow to discuss about the local government election.
