The National Council for Road Safety says the number of accidents in railway level crossings has increased substantially.

Its Chairman Dr. Sisira Kodagoda said reflective boards will be fixed nearby railway level crossings to improve the awareness of the public.

Accordingly, 3 reflective boards each will be fixed within a distance of 90 feet at a level crossing.

Meanwhile, 24 persons have died so far this year while trying to take selfies in trains and on railway tracks.

Dr. Kodagoda said notice boards will be fixed at railway stations to inform people of such dangers.

Views were exchanged at the Parliament today (21) on the rising number of road accidents.

In response to an oral question raised by MP Udaya Gammanpila, Chief Government Whip, Minister Gayantha Karunatillake said that road accidents are increasing due to three-wheelers.

Meanwhile, the Colombo bound 'Udarata Menike' train derailed at Rosella in Hatton at around 10.30 am today (21).

Now the railway workers are working on to fix the track.

The Main Control Room said that until the track is repaired trains are running up to Rossella from Colombo Fort and up to Hatton from Badulla.
