Prime Minister's Office in Colombo says that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has agreed to extend India's fullest cooperation to Sri Lanka's digital innovation programme.

This was conveyed during bilateral discussions between PM Ranil Wickremesinghe and Indian PM held at New Delhi today (23).

He has agreed to provide the assistance of the Indian experts to develop Sinhala and Tamil software to implement the pilot project of distributing tablets among schoolchildren.

The two leaders have also shared views on energy and food security, free maritime flow on the Indian Ocean, and the possibility of having joint-ventures between Indo-Lanka firms.

"Neighbourhood first," external affairs ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.

He added that Modi received Wickremesinghe at Hyderabad House and that both countries "share strong and close relations based on mutual trust and respect".

Earlier, Wickremesinghe attended the Fifth Global Conference on Cyber Space here which was addressed by Modi.
