Department of Meteorology says due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the South-West Bay of Bengal to the Southeast of Sri Lanka, showery condition over the island and Eastern sea area is expected to enhance particularly in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces during the weekend.

Cloudy skies are expected over most parts of the island, the Department added.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, and Uva provinces and in the Hambantota district.

Showers or thundershowers are also predicted elsewhere particularly after 2 pm.

The Met Office said that heavy falls of above 100mm can be expected at some places in the Eastern, North-Central, Northern and Uva provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Kankesanturai via Hambantota and Trincomalee and there is a possibility for heavy showers in the above sea area.

Temporarily strong gusty winds up to 70-80 kmph could be expected and very rough seas can be expected in the sea areas during thundershowers.
