President Sirisena says he will 'never betray' the country

As part of his 3-day official tour to South Korea discussions between President Maithripala Sirisena and South Korean President Moon Jae-in are scheduled to be held today (29).
 
The Presidential Media Division said that several agreements to further enhance the bilateral cooperation are to be signed.
 
Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena received an unexpectedly warm welcome from the South Korean President Moon Jae-in yesterday (28) during his visit to an ancient Buddhist Temple in Seoul.
 
The Presidential Media Division said that in a gesture that was a surprise to all, the Korean President had been waiting to welcome the Sri Lankan President.
 
On this occasion, the Korean President said, he had come to see the Sri Lankan President to accord him a welcome of friendship.
 
The South Korean President said there are many areas common to both countries, and that he hoped in the future those would be further improved.
 
Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena addressing a group of Sri Lankan community in South Korea said that he would never betray the nation.

He said that he came to power with the sole intention of rectifying the historical errors and to ensure that the people of Sri Lanka would live in peace and harmony.

Addressing the Sri Lankan community in South Korea he narrated the events leading to his decision to be the common candidate in the Presidential Election of 2015.

He revealed his desire to fulfill the mandate given to him by the people, despite the hurdles and challenges come across.

The meeting with the Sri Lankan community was held at the Nam San Hall at the Grand Hyatt in Seoul.
