Naval and fishing communities are advised to refrain from their activities as wind speeds will increase up to 70-80kmph in coastal areas.

The DMC added that the wind speed will increase up to 80 -100kmph in South - Western and Southern coastal areas and 80kmph over the land areas.

The Disaster Management Centre said that strong winds have hit some areas in Galle, Matara, Kalutara, Hambantota, and Badulla districts.

The falling of trees and power failures are also reported, the DMC said.

The Met Department meanwhile said that strong winds could be expected until tomorrow afternoon.

It is reported that the train services have been disrupted along the coastal line due to fallen trees.

Vehicular movements along the Galle - Colombo main road has been disrupted at Ambalangoda, due to fallen trees.
