Car-bus collision kills 2 at Meegaswewa

Two persons have died and 11 injured when a car collided with a bus at Meegaswewa on the Dambulla - Habarana main road this morning.

The car was heading towards Dambulla from Trincomalee.
 
The bus which had attempted to overtake 2 other buses, collided with the car head-on at around 8.30 am.
 
The driver of the car and another person were already dead when they were taken to the hospital.
 
11 other persons were injured in the accident.
 
The Medical Officer of Habarana hospital said that 2 more occupants in the car who were in serious condition, were transferred to Dambulla hospital.
 
Meanwhile, 9 passengers of the bus were also injured and 7 of them are at Dambulla hospital and other 2 are at Habarana hospital.
 
A group of students from a private university in Kandy was travelling in 3 buses on a trip to Trincomalee.
 
The eyewitnesses said that the buses were racing with each other when the accident took place.
