The OCKHI cyclone in the Arabian Sea is now located about 850km to the west of the island and moving further away from the island, the Met Department said.

The Department also stated, therefore, its effect on the country is expected to lessen gradually.

"Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central provinces and in the Puttalam, Galle, and Matara districts", the latest statement issued by the Colombo Met Office said.

Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organization says that the landslide warning issued for Ratnapura, Kandy, Galle, Matale, Badulla, Hambantota and Kalutara will remain intact.

Low lying areas are reportedly flooded as the water levels of Nilwala, Gin and Kalu Rivers have risen.

214 Teams comprising members of tri Forces have been deployed to provide assistance during the disaster situation.

160 Army teams, 30 Navy teams, and 24 Air Force teams have been deployed.

Meanwhile, 13 people have died due to inclement weather affecting the island while 5 persons are reported missing.

30 fishing vessels have also been damaged while bodies of 4 fishermen found yesterday.

The Disaster Management Centre said that 61,125 persons belonging to 18,752 families in 14 districts have been affected by the adverse weather conditions.
