The cyclone named OCKHI in the Arabian Sea is now located at about 850km to the west of the island and moving further away from the island, the Met Department said.

It added hence its effect for the country is expected to lessen gradually.

However, the Met Office said that showers or thundershowers will occur in the most parts of the island.

Showers or thundershowers may occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central provinces and in the Puttalam, Galle, and Matara districts in the morning too.

Fairly heavy falls between 50-75mm can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces.

Fairly strong gusty winds up to 50kmph can be expected in the Ratnapura, Kaluthara and Galle districts.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

The Met Department also urged the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
