Weather havoc: 106,000 people affected

The Disaster Management Center says that 106,076 persons have affected by the inclement weather prevailing in 16 districts.

The death toll stands at 15 while 27 individuals have been admitted to hospital with injuries.

694 houses have been completely destroyed while 25,117 houses have been partially damaged.

Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department said that water levels in rivers are receding gradually with the reduction of rainfall.

Meanwhile, the Met Office said that showers or thundershowers at times will occur at Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and Uva provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere after 2 pm.

Heavy showers above 100mm can be expected in Northern province and fairly heavy falls between 50-75mm can be expected at some places in the North-Central, Eastern, and Uva provinces.

Fairly strong gusty winds up to 50kmph can be expected in the Southern, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces and in Kaluthara, Polonnaruwa and Batticaloa districts.
