The Director-General of National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) Buddhika Iddamalgoda says that the sea snakes caught in fishing nets at Navaladi in Batticaloa will be tested in laboratories at Colombo.

He told us that only after a test that the NARA could determine whether those creatures are edible.

Meanwhile, Fisheries and Aquatic Resource Development Minister Mahinda Amaraweera have informed the NARA to clarify the reason behind the sea snakes being caught in fishing nets.

The Minister has asked NARA to make sure whether this phenomenon foretells an imminent natural disaster or is it a transformation of the life circle of the reptile.

However, NARA guessed that rise in temperature at sea would be a reason for this phenomena.
