The Met Department says that the low pressure area in the central Bay of Bengal is located 800 km away from Sri Lanka.

It is likely to further intensify in to a depression during the next 12 hours and move North-westwards away from Sri Lanka.

Therefore, wind speed could be increased in Northern and Eastern sea areas.

Several spells of showers will occur at Northern, North-Central and Eastern provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and in the Hambantota after 2 pm.

Fairly strong gusty winds up to 50 kilometers per hour could be expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle, Matara, Ampara and Batticaloa districts.

Duty Meteorologist Buddhika Banduratne requests the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning activity.

Meanwhile, the Mannar District Court ordered to release the 25 fishermen who had gone fishing disregarding weather warnings after severely reprimanding them.

The Navy had arrested this group that had gone to fishing in spite of the warning, to refrain from going into sea until further notice.

Later the group was handed over to police.
