A large number of train commuters are affected by the ongoing strike launched by the train engine drivers.

The Locomotive Engineering Operators’ Union launched this strike last night urging the authorities to revise the existing recruitment methodology for assistant train drivers.

When we contacted the Main Control Room of Sri Lanka Railways, a spokesperson said that about 150 turns have to be cancelled due to the strike.

He said a majority of them are long-distance journeys.

Meanwhile, a discussion on the strike will be held at the Transport and Civil Aviation Ministry this afternoon.

Meanwhile, SLTB Chairman, Ramal Siriwardana said that extra buses have been deployed to transport the affected commuters.
