Met Department says that the depression in the Bay of Bengal sea area is moving further away from Sri Lanka and its effect on the country is expected to lessen and the possibility for rainy weather is also decreasing.

“This system is located nearly 900km to the North-east of Trincomalee. It is likely to develop into a deep depression during next 24 hours and move towards north-northwest direction in the Bay of Bengal sea area”, the Met Office said.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Uva and Central provinces and in the Hambantota and Ampara districts.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces during the morning.

The Met Office added that there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

The general public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
