The Railway Main Control Room says that 276 scheduled train journeys were cancelled due to the ongoing strike action.

However, it said plans are mooted to operate at least 10 office trains today (08).

The Locomotive Engineering Operators’ Union launched this strike on Wednesday urging the authorities to revise the existing recruitment methodology for assistant train drivers.

The Union's Secretary Indika Dodangoda said they will continue their strike until the issue raised by them is sorted out.

Meanwhile, station masters, controllers, guards and several other unions commenced a work stoppage from midnight yesterday, due to a salary issue.
