Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife Gamini Jayawickrama Perera says that there seems to be a conspiracy behind the killing of wild elephants.

An intense discussion is being evolved with the society with the killing of Galgamuwe Dalapoottuwa and the recent killing of Thani Dalaya.

It was revealed that Thani Dalaya had died due to poisoning while gunshots were also seen on the carcass which was found in the Puttalam- Sellakandal reserve.

In the past few days, 4 tuskers and another elephant were killed.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department is conducting an investigation to find out whether there is a large scale racket to kill elephants and tuskers within the country.

Speaking at a media conference held today (11), Minister Gamini Jayawickrama Perera said that a conspiracy has been hatched to force the authorities to release tame elephants who are kept with Wildlife Department.
