The Railway Department says that if employees engaging in the strike choose to not report to work by midnight tonight, the Department will consider them as having vacated their posts.

Railway Department Assistant General Manager Wijeya Samarasinghe said that this was a joint decision taken by the Minister of Transport Nimal Siripala de Silva and the Department officials.

The strike which began last Wednesday is being continued for a 7th day today (13).

Samarasinghe said that 45 trains were operated yesterday, in spite of the strike.

Meanwhile yesterday, the President appointed a 4-member Cabinet Sub-Committee headed by Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama to discuss the matter with trade unions.

They will meet the trade unions this afternoon.
