Nelka Deepani Kumari of Kekirawa left for Saudi Arabia in 2011 after she found the financial burden was hard to bear.

She was without her husband and had 2 children, a son, and a daughter.

However, when she attempted to return home in 2013 after the completion of her 2-year contract, the employer had resisted and had kept her there against her will.

Thereafter, her children had lost contact with her.

Then in 2014, her son, Ganushka Theraj had lodged a complaint with the Foreign Employment Bureau about it.

They were informed that Deepani had fallen from the 3rd floor of a building and she was receiving treatment at a hospital in Saudi Arabia.

Ganushka said he wrote to everybody from Pradeshiya Sabha member to President seeking help to get his sick mother back to Sri Lanka.

Even he had attempted to meet the subject Ministers a number of times, but no one was willing to listen to their tragic story.

Then 13th of last month, Ganushka said an official from the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau had informed him over the phone about the demise of his mother.

Since then, Ganushka has been trying to bring back the body of his mother. However, still, no one has come forward to help him.

"I have been writing to the SLFEB, Provincial Councillors and even President for the last one month seeking assistance. But we have still failed to get my mother's body back", Ganushka said.

Nelka may have left for Saudi Arabia with a lot of hope. She must have dreamt of a bright future for her children.

Ultimately she died in a country which is far away from Sri Lanka after undergoing unexpected sufferings.
