Police have obtained a statement from the Registrar of the Sri Lanka Medical Council, Terence de Silva, regarding an alleged incident where a stock of postal voting papers had been examined forcefully by few GMOA members.

Further, a senior officer from Maradana Police, investigating the matter, said that statements were obtained from the security guards at the SLMC, yesterday (19).

Allegations have been leveled against GMOA office bearers, Dr. Nalinda Herath and Dr. Naveen de Zoysa in this case.

13 doctors have been nominated for the SLMC elections scheduled for 23rd and 24th of January to fill 4 vacant positions to which the GMOA Deputy Secretaries, Dr. Nalinda Herath, and Dr. Naveen de Zoysa would be contesting.

However, the Chairman of the SLMC Prof. Colvin Gooneratne noted that information had come to light that 4 doctors had entered the guardroom forcefully and had checked the voting papers.
