Police have initiated an investigation into a ragging incident of a first-year undergraduate attached to the Art Faculty of the University of Peradeniya.

Police said the victim, from Diyathalawa, is currently receiving treatment at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.

Three senior students have allegedly stopped the new student at Galaha Junction and thereafter had taken the victim to an isolated location to rag him.

During the ragging, the undergraduate had become unconscious and later he was admitted to a private hospital stating that the victim had met with an accident.

Later, the victim was transferred to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital after the management of the private hospital informed the university administration of their suspicions regarding the cause of injury.
