It has been revealed that the bus conductor who was driving the ill-fated private bus which met with an accident in Pathulpaana, Ratnapura does not have a valid driving license.

Police investigations found that the regular driver had handed over the driving seat to the conductor at the Udawalawa area due to tiredness.

The bus which was travelling from Urubokka to Colombo veered off the road and toppled into a canal, Police said.

Two persons including a woman were killed and 44 other passengers were injured in the mishap.

A passenger who was in the bus said the conductor while driving the bus had attempted to make some adjustment to the TV set when the tragedy struck.
