Police have obtained a statement from Assistant Secretary of the Government Medical Officers' Association Naveen De Soyza over charges of having forcefully checked the postal votes received for the Sri Lanka Medical Council election to be held next month.

The Registrar of the Sri Lanka Medical Council and a security officer were also questioned regarding the matter.

It was reported that Dr. Soyza was questioned for nearly 3 hours.

Assistant Secretaries of the GMOA Dr. Nalinda Herath and Dr. Naveen De Soyza are contesting for two Committee Member positions of the Sri Lanka Medical Council.

The Chairman of the SLMC Professor Colvin Gunaratna had complained to the police stating that the two Doctors had checked the postal ballots after forcefully entering the premises.

The incident had allegedly taken place on 18th of this month.
