Tsunami commemorations held island-wide

Sri Lanka today (26) commemorated the 13th anniversary of the deadly Boxing Day tsunami that swept the island in 2004.
 
Over 35,000 people were killed many others injured in the tragedy.
 
Meanwhile, the relatives of victims participated in commemorations that were held in many parts of the island.
 
A 2-minute silence was observed from 9.25 to 9.27 am in remembrance of the victims.
 
A special train left Colombo Fort at 6.50 am to Peraliya in Telwatta in commemoration of the victims of the train accident that took place as a result of the Tsunami.
 
The relatives of those tsunami victims travelled by train to Peraliya and paid floral tributes at the Monument.
