The villagers of Kithuluthuwa in Habarana, Polonnaruwa staged a demonstration this morning (26) nearby the Kithuluthuwa Bridge on the Polonnaruwa - Trincomalee main road.

Our correspondent said they were urging the authorities to protect their village from wild elephant attacks.

Around 300 villagers took part in the protest.

Later, the officials from the Polonnaruwa District Wildlife Office came to meet the protestors.

The villagers agreed to suspend the protest after they were given assurance that a solution would be found after discussing the issue with the Director General of the Wildlife Department.
